Vipre Antivirus is a lightweight antivirus with a bundle of bonus features attached to it. I recently decided to try it out to get a better idea of what Vipre has to offer.
Installation
Installing Vipre was pretty simple and straight forward. All you need is an active internet connection and you can trust the simple minimalist installer to do the rest of the job. During installation, Vipre checks if any conflicting program or Antivirus software is installed on the system and prompts you to uninstall it.
To test how good Vipre is at blocking malware, I installed it on a virtual machine low on system resources. What I liked was, Vipre was equally fast on the VM too. I tried visiting a few malicious websites to check how good it is at blocking Malware attacks and I was pretty impressed with the results. The Active Protection is definitely one of the best features of Vipre Antivirus.
In addition to the Antivirus and malware protection features, Vipre Antivirus comes with a bunch of handy system tools like Secure File Eraser, PC Explorer and History Cleaner. Secure file eraser allows you to permanently delete a file from the hard disk making it impossible to recover. This is useful for getting rid of confidential content. PC Explorer allows you to view settings that are normally hidden for the common user. History cleaner gives you a common interface to clear history information of various applications.
Overall, Vipre is good for Malware blocking. Also, it is very lightweight as compared to other antivirus products with similar kind of features. A boot-time scan option is something I missed but Vipre Antivirus is still worth a try.
