Ordered a Dell Studio 15

Regular visitors of my blog would know that I’ve been planning to buy a laptop. I’ve finally placed an order for a Dell Studio 15 series laptop and will be getting it in 10 to 12 days working days. Read on to know the configuration.

I started my quest to find the perfect laptop for myself early this month. I was inclined to get a laptop with an AMD processor but Ankur advised me that Intel was a better option for laptops. Next up, I wanted a good graphics card which would support Crysis at a decent resolution. I decided to go for an ATI graphics card as it would give me better value for money.

Selecting the brand was a pretty easy job. I wasn’t considering Indian brands and I’m not crazy enough to buy a Vaio or a Macbook. I was mainly considering Dell and HP. I was slightly inclined towards Dell as it offers online customization for your laptop. Finally, after going through HP and Dell options, I decided to go for a Dell Studio 15 laptop. I initially decided to buy the one with the P8600 2.4GHz processor, 512MB Graphics card and 320GB hard disk and customized it to include a 9-cell battery, but Ankur provided me a nice alternative that would cost roughly the same. That enlightened me and I realized the importance of little customizations like a backlit keyboard and a 500GB hard disk.

So here’s the configuration I finally settled for-

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6400 (2GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache)
4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM Memory
Dell(TM) Backlit Keyboard with Touchpad
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
500GB SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium SP1 32 bit (An impurity in my hard disk)
Slot Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
Integrated Stereo Sound with Subwoofer
1 Year Complete Cover Accidental Damage Protection
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
15.6” 720p WLED (1366×768) Display with TrueLife™ and Built-in 2.0MP Web Cam

The next step was ordering the laptop. I could’ve ordered online but if I ordered from a Dell exclusive store, the 4% tax would not be charged. I headed to the Dell Exclusive store Vidur & Co, G-4 Gedore House, 51- 52 Nehru Place to order it, Since I wanted to make customizations, it was next to impossible to find a laptop in stock with some retailer. I went inside the crowded store where all Dell laptops and desktops were displayed. A lot of people were placing their orders. Finally, after waiting for 10 minutes, a representative was free and it was my turn. The guy was using an Inspiron 1525 to place my order. He was using Internet Explorer 6. Later, when he minimized the window, I noticed that he was using a pirated copy of Windows XP which had failed the genuine advantage notification test. Perhaps, the guy tried upgrading his browser to IE7. The order was placed quickly and I paid through my credit card using an IVRS. In case you are wondering how much it cost me, it cost me around Rs 51000 inclusive of all charges.
