I received a SMS today about the final phase of VIT counseling.There are still a few seats remaining and candidates with AIR under 11,000 have been called for counselling.This phase of counseling is remote counseling and candidates have to Fax their forms and a copy of a DD of Rs10,000 to VIT.Click on the link at the bottom of this post for full details.

AIEEE Counselling Ends

The 10 day long AIEEE counseling has finally ended.There are still a few seats in a few private colleges under Open category.This is good news for people waiting for allotment under Form 2 or the second phase of counseling.There will obviously be some dropout seats so don't loose hope if you haven't been allotted any institute through form 1.

Those who made it through Form 1,don't forget that you need to report to the allotted institute and get enrolled before 20th July 2008.As expected,Lovely Professional University still has 500+ seats available and half of them are under good branches.With a name like Lovely Professional University,not too many people will be tempted to join.I guess people feel that Amity university is better known and is better that low ranked private universities.

MANIT Bhopal

As I mentioned before,I was allotted Energy Engineering at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology(MANIT),Bhopal.So I decided to go there to complete the admission formalities and ensure myself a hostel room.The campus is huge just like every engineering college.I reached there with all documents and drafts ready.The admission process took just 2 hours which included a long walk to and from the Dispensary for a medical examination and filling up of long forms.

About the course-Energy Engineering is a multi-discipline course that was started a year ago in MANIT.Other institutions that offer Energy Engineering are IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur. Generally, the IITans find themselves at NASA after Energy Engineering.The faculty is good as courses of many branches are a part of the curriculum.Overall,its a branch for tomorrow.I will be graduating after 4 years and by that time Energy will be a stream in demand.

I'm 99% sure that I'll be joining MANIT.I'll be sure after DCE counseling(if any) on 24th July.

AIEEE Central Counselling

I had my AIEEE central counseling today.It was a really tiring experience as over 400 candidates reported at the Delhi counseling center.Here are the details of the on-campus online counseling procedure.

Documents Required(With one copy)

-AIEEE Admit Card
-AIEEE Score Card
-Class X mark sheet and certificate
-Class XII mark sheet and certificate
-Demand Draft of Rs.15,000
-4 Photographs

First,you need to queue to get a token number.Then wait for your turn to get a file with a declaration form issued.After that,arrange all documents in the file and fill up the form.Now you need to get the documents verified and wait in a room for your file.Then you will be called to finalize your choices online.

Sounds simple?I reached the center at 9:30am.I got a token number at 11:00am(I was number 360).I got a file at around 2:30pm and the procedure of verification of documents took another 30-50 minutes.Finally,I entered the counseling room at 3:30 PM.And by the time I collected my fee receipt and completed all formalities it was 4:00pm.The people at the center had a time limit of 1 hour in mind and they were sort of giving the people taking more than that tough time.

Parents are not allowed in the counseling room.Thus I could hear people saying on the phone

Mummy,Silchar mein bharoon?.......

I was lucky to sit in front of the window so I just called my Dad in front of it and easily cleared a few doubts that had found their way into my mind all of a sudden.The on-campus online counseling website was 100 times better than the off-campus online one.Unlike the off-campus counseling,the on-campus one didn't reload the entire page in order to rearrange options.

Then you have to freeze your choices for Form1 and Form2 and to to an official to lock your choices and get a print-out of your form 1 and form 2.I was finished with everything by 5:15pm.

Here are some tips-
1.Don't fill too many choices in Form1 if you have hope from Form2 as if you get alloted to a crappy place by form 1,you won't be considered for drop-out seats.
2.Either reach the counseling center at 6:00 am or at 3:00pm.The reason being that the guy who reached at 8:30 am left at 10:30.I reached at 9:30 am and left at 5:15pm.A guy arrived the center at 4:00pm and left at the time I left.

The allotment is generally put up on the CCB website by 12 midnight.You can download the allotment letter and report at the institute by 20th July to complete admission formalities.

Update-I was alloted Energy Engineering at Maulana Azad NIT Bhopal.I never expected getting to a good NIT in a good branch with an All India Rank of 14191.

AIEEE Counseling Details Out

VIT 2nd Phase Counseling

After the First Phase of counseling,there are a few vacant seats in VIT which claims to be India's top private engineering college.But from what I've heard from people elder to me,its a crappy place and the only thing good about it is its Prospectus which depicts it as a Paradise.Also the hostel food is cooked in Coconut Oil which is intolerable and you'll feel miserable if you get a room near the kitchen.

Anyways,if you are still keen to join VIT,I have news for you.VIT has announced the 2nd Phase of it counseling.The number of vacant seats are as follows-

The counseling schedule for AIEEE 2008 which was due to come out today has been postponed.The counseling details will be revealed soon.

On June 13th,a new admission criteria was released for admission to NITs.A 50% state quota will be implemented for the state in which the NIT is located.Rest of the seats will be filled according to All India Rank.

AIEEE and BITSAT Cutoffs

Recently I've been receiving loads of queries about AIEEE ranks and BITSAT scores.It will take me hours to reply to all these queries if I visit each and every post and reply to the comments,all thanks to Blogger's commenting system.

If you wish to check your chances of getting admission to any of the NITs or IIITs etc.,you can check last year's opening rank and closing ranks by clicking here.The ranks will be more or less similar this year except for the fact that a few extra IIT seats can give people with ranks in the higher range some hope.

All of my exams are finally over and now you can expect lots of posts because I have nothing to do at all.Here's a summary of all the exams-

IIT JEE-As expected,I didn't qualify in JEE 2008.

VITEEE-VITEEE was easy but the no negative marking policy is cruel.I can get into VIT but I won't get CS or IT,so what's the point?Secondly,I don't feel that VIT is a good college as I have heard numerous negative remarks about it.

AIEEE-AIEEE was a relief after JEE and VITEEE.I am expecting a good result in AIEEE and a seat in CS in a good NIT.

BITSAT-BITSAT was a shocker.I probably made too many silly mistakes and reduced my marks.Perhaps the time slot didn't suit me that well.

CEE-I appeared for the DCE,NSIT common entrance exam(CEE) today.Those guys took away the question paper too so its difficult to say anything.All I can say is that I have a chance of getting through.

Conclusion-I will probably get into a decent engineering college this year.

VITEEE 2008 Result Out

The VITEEE(Pronounced as "WITTY") 2008 result is out.The result would've been SMSed to you if you had given your mobile number.In case you haven't checked your rank yet,you can check your rank from this page.Although,the top 6,000 have been called for counselling I've heard that last year the last rank to get admission was around 20,000.Other sources tell me that there will be a second round of counseling for ranks 6000 to around 12000.I've gathered all this information by word of mouth.VIT is a private college so obviously VITEEE is not the only way to get in.

From what I've heard,the top 6,000 can get the branch of their choice in VIT like Computer Science and IT.If you are in the top 10,000 you will get admission for sure but you might not get a popular branch.Basically,just wait for counseling and you'll get what you deserve.Nobody can tell you accurately as seats are subject to availability.

AIEEE 2008 Cut-Off and Analysis

The AIEEE solutions are out.You would have calculated your marks by now.If you haven't done so,you can do so by visiting my post-Download AIEEE 2008 Solutions.You must be wondering what marks would be good enough to get a rank under 10000.The cut-off will be around 180/315 for a rank under 10000.

The format of the paper changed this year.There were 105 questions in all,35 each of Physics,Chemistry and Maths.The questions carried 3 marks as usual and there was negative marking of -1 mark per wrong question.The paper was really simple but had Assertion Reason type questions which were unexpected.

According to Career Launcher,a score of 60-65 in Maths,55-60 in Physics and 65-70 in Chemistry can be called an excellent score.All the best for the result.You can also post your marks in a comment to compare with others.

Here are some landmark ranks and the score you require for them.Note that my analysis of the cutoff might differ from the actual cutoff by a few marks. You can still comment and post your marks.

VITEEE 2008 Cut-Off

There are many people frantically searching for the expected VITEEE(Pronounced as "WITTY") cutoff.People are asking me if they'll get into VIT or not.It is very difficult to predict something like this due to the marking scheme.There is no clear figure available for last years cutoff either.Some people say that in VITEEE 2007 the topper scored 105.Different people claim different numbers.Frankly speaking,you will not find the cutoff anywhere.But I have a solution to this which will give you an idea of where you stand.

IIT JEE 2008 Cut Off and Analysis

First of all,if you don't know,I've already uploaded the IIT JEE 2008 solutions.To download IIT JEE 2008 solutions, visit my last post-IIT JEE 2008 Solutions.Once you download the solutions and calculate your marks,you should resume reading this post.

The experts have said that the performance will go down this year.I'll stick to the point and come directly to the topic of cut-offs.The cut-off is expected to be around 160 for a rank.You can get more information about the rank you'll get by visiting the 100Percentile blog.Manmohan Gupta or more popularly known as Munna Bhaiya of VMC has made a nice post about the rank you can expect.The actual marks you'll need might be slightly less than what is mentioned there.I won't disclose too much about my marks but I think its safe to say that I'll at least make it to the Extended Merit List.Loads of exams to go and I'm confident that I'll score higher in them.

Since I missed the date to apply to NTU, the next exam for me is Witty VITEEE(VIT Engineering Entrance Examination).Well if you don't know what VIT stands for,it Vellore Institute of Technology.VIEEE will be interesting as it has no negative marking.I've heard that a score of 100/120 is good enough for a good course.

IIT JEE 2008

Phew,I've just come home after IIT JEE-2008.I think I've done a pretty decent job.The paper 1 had 69 questions and paper 2 had 63 questions adding up to a total of 246 and 243 marks respectively.As I'm writing this post,Munna Bhaiya(Manmohan Gupta) is busy uploading the solutions to the maths questions.Other VMC teachers are uploading the solutions to Physics and Chemistry.You can check out the solutions on 100 Percentile forums.They are the first people to upload the solutions.If you can wait for a few hours,I'll upload the solutions in pdf format to download.I'll provide a detailed analysis of the IIT-JEE 2008 in a few hours.

BITSAT Hall Ticket

Haven't decided and reserved your BITSAT date and time yet?I have bad news for you.You can no longer do that.For the rest of the people which includes around 99.99% of the applicants,you can now download your hall ticket from the BITSAT website.You can download the hall ticket from 20th March till 31st March.For people who think Computer Science is the toughest subject and they'll have to study 24X11,don't get too excited after your computer exam and set a reminder to sit in front of your computer and print the hall ticket after the exam.
