AIEEE and BITSAT Cutoffs

Recently I've been receiving loads of queries about AIEEE ranks and BITSAT scores. It will take me hours to reply to all these queries if I visit each and every post and reply to the comments, all thanks to Blogger's commenting system.

If you wish to check your chances of getting admission to any of the NITs or IIITs etc.,you can check last year's opening rank and closing ranks by clicking here. The ranks will be more or less similar this year except for the fact that a few extra IIT seats can give people with ranks in the higher range some hope.

Here's a solution to your BITSAT queries.Last year's BITSAT cutoffs(I got these from Ankur's post)

BITS Pilani,Pilani Campus

BITS Pilani,Goa Campus

For Hyderabad Campus, don't expect the cutoffs to be low.The cutoffs for Pilani and Goa will definitely go up as this is the general trend.

Back to Blogging

All of my exams are finally over and now you can expect lots of posts because I have nothing to do at all. Here's a summary of all the exams-

IIT JEE-As expected,I didn't qualify in JEE 2008.

VITEEE-VITEEE was easy but the no negative marking policy is cruel.I can get into VIT but I won't get CS or IT,so what's the point?Secondly,I don't feel that VIT is a good college as I have heard numerous negative remarks about it.

AIEEE-AIEEE was a relief after JEE and VITEEE.I am expecting a good result in AIEEE and a seat in CS in a good NIT.

BITSAT-BITSAT was a shocker.I probably made too many silly mistakes and reduced my marks.Perhaps the time slot didn't suit me that well.

CEE-I appeared for the DCE,NSIT common entrance exam(CEE) today. Those guys took away the question paper too so its difficult to say anything. All I can say is that I have a chance of getting through.

Conclusion-I will probably get into a decent engineering college this year.

IIT JEE 2008 Cut Off and Analysis

First of all,if you don't know,I've already uploaded the IIT JEE 2008 solutions. To download IIT JEE 2008 solutions, visit my last post-IIT JEE 2008 Solutions.Once you download the solutions and calculate your marks, you should resume reading this post.

The experts have said that the performance will go down this year.I'll stick to the point and come directly to the topic of cut-offs.The cut-off is expected to be around 160 for a rank. You can get more information about the rank you'll get by visiting the 100Percentile blog.Manmohan Gupta or more popularly known as Munna Bhaiya of VMC has made a nice post about the rank you can expect. The actual marks you'll need might be slightly less than what is mentioned there.I won't disclose too much about my marks but I think its safe to say that I'll at least make it to the Extended Merit List.Loads of exams to go and I'm confident that I'll score higher in them.

Since I missed the date to apply to NTU, the next exam for me is Witty VITEEE(VIT Engineering Entrance Examination).Well if you don't know what VIT stands for,it Vellore Institute of Technology.VIEEE will be interesting as it has no negative marking.I've heard that a score of 100/120 is good enough for a good course.

IIT JEE 2008

Phew,I've just come home after IIT JEE-2008.I think I've done a pretty decent job.The paper 1 had 69 questions and paper 2 had 63 questions adding up to a total of 246 and 243 marks respectively. As I'm writing this post,Munna Bhaiya(Manmohan Gupta) is busy uploading the solutions to the maths questions.Other VMC teachers are uploading the solutions to Physics and Chemistry. You can check out the solutions on 100 Percentile forums. They are the first people to upload the solutions. If you can wait for a few hours,I'll upload the solutions in pdf format to download.I'll provide a detailed analysis of the IIT-JEE 2008 in a few hours.

Here's a latest update-You can now download the solutions in pdf format from the page-Naman Zone:IIT JEE 2008 Solutions.I'll keep editing the post so you can check in a few hours for new downloads.

BITSAT Hall Ticket

Haven't decided and reserved your BITSAT date and time yet?I have bad news for you.You can no longer do that. For the rest of the people which includes around 99.99% of the applicants, you can now download your hall ticket from the BITSAT website. You can download the hall ticket from 20th March till 31st March. For people who think Computer Science is the toughest subject and they'll have to study 24X11,don't get too excited after your computer exam and set a reminder to sit in front of your computer and print the hall ticket after the exam.

Don't have a printer/can't print at home?I have a solution for you.You can try PDF24,a virtual PDF printer. You can convert any text file into a PDF file using it.The installer will install the printer for you.Whenever you print something using pdf24,it will create a pdf file which you can save on your computer. So just print the hall ticket using pdf24 and save the pdf.Transfer it to a storage media like a CD,Pen Drive or even a Floppy if you still like primitive stuff. You can take the actual print-out whenever you want.

Back To JEE Preparation

Now that I have 9 free days before my Maths Bored Exam,I can get back to my JEE preparation.English,Physics and Chemistry went fine.I can't expect anything in English.I'll get something like 60/70 in Physics and 65/70 in Chemistry.English was really simple and if things work out well in terms of checking,I'll get a decent score.Lots of things to revise so I'll keep this short.

Decreasing Number Of Posts

You might have noticed the decrease in the frequency of posts on my blog. The reason is pretty obvious.I'm a student of class XII and attend classes at VMC for IIT JEE 2008 preparation. Thus I rarely get time to maintain my blog and write some posts.

VMC has a tradition of completing the syllabus not before the month of January.December is a month of frequent classes. The so called pre-bored boards are scheduled for January.Topics like Inorganic Chemistry,Biomolecules and Modern Physics are tough on the mind as all these require mugging up the awful book published by the NCERT.

The insignificant Bored Board exams will keep me buys in March.13th April is going to be a date to watch out for. No,I'm not talking about the harvesting festival,Baisakhi. It's the IIT JEE day.I'm better off not keeping the date out of my mind.It can interfere with my preparation.

Basically, the next few months are going to be the months with the least number of posts on Naman Zone.Though you will find a new post in the next 2 days, don't expect too many posts.

VMC: A Special Teacher

Probability is probably the toughest topic in IIT JEE preparation. Luckily I have a great teacher to teach me the topic. Manmohan Gupta a.k.a Munna Bhaiya is teaching the topic to all Regular and ECC groups. He will be taking two classes on Probability.

I’ve already had one class and it was fantastic. Munna Bhaiya is a great teacher and an inspiring personality. He is the best maths teacher in VMC or perhaps the best one in New Delhi. He has the capability of making a difficult topic look easy. I’m looking forward to his next class which I’m sure will be great.

It’s really amazing to see how hard Sandeep Bhaiya (Mr. Sandeep Mehta) works to make a perfect schedule. The IIT JEE 2009 batch is having it’s Trigonometry classes. Vivek Bhaiya who is a great teacher as far as Trigonometry is teaching them. Thus Munna Bhaiya can find some time to teach the ECC groups.

With the Chemistry and Physics module 7 over and just a couple of topics remaining in Maths module 7,you should expect Test Series 7 in a few weeks.

VMC-EXTENDED CLASSROOM COURSE-2

In my post called VMC-EXTENDED CLASSROOM COURSE I had mentioned about writing a sequel. Here it is-

Today I'll describe two VMC teachers who have taught me for a short period of time but have changed my life and attitude remarkably

Rohit Goyal or Rohit Bhaiya as we call him at VMC is a brilliant maths teacher. He is a Computer Science student, studying in his 3rd year at IIT Delhi. He teaches Calculus at VMC and I attended his last class on Sunday. He is a person who is worth mentioning. He is good, both at teaching and at motivating us.He once told us in class that he is not one of the greatest students of IIT, but let me tell you he is one of the greatest maths teachers at VMC.He has a great sense of humor and makes classes interesting by describing his experiences at IIT.This serves as a source of extra motivation to study.I really hope my juniors are taught by him.

Ashish Bhaiya is a student of IIT Guwahati who came to New Delhi to teach us Solutions,an important topic of physical chemistry. He was brilliant at teaching it.I attended his class 2 months ago and still remember each and every word he said.At VMC,the teacher who is the best at teaching a particular topic teaches it to every single batch of ECC and sometimes even Regular batches.

I'm busy studying nowadays,so I'll keep this post short and write about a few teachers, the next time I write a post on VMC-ECC.

VMC: TS-5

This might be nothing new for some but like I always say,for those of you who don't know by now,Vidyamandir Classes will be organizing Test Series 5 on July 22 2007.Do you know what that means?Don't expect many posts these days,I'll have to restrict them to one or two per week.TS5 is supposed to be very crucial,so I have to prepare for it.Here's what the syllabus will be like(I'm not sure about 1-2 topics but this is what the syllabus will look like)-

Physics:Module 1-5,All topics
Chemistry: Module 1-5 and Electrochemistry 2 and The Chemistry of Grignard Reagent from module 6.Solid State from Module 5 might be excluded
Mathematics:Module 1-5 and Indefinite Integration from module 6

I thought that mentioning this will be useful to some as there's always some confusion about the syllabus.Frankly speaking, the syllabus doesn't matter at all.Your aim should be to prepare of JEE and not for TS5.The venues for the test will be SD Public School,Punjabi Bagh and Father Agnel School. If you have any inquiries about the location or anything else you can leave a comment.

For all my juniors in VMC I would like to advice them to listen to thier teachers and be regular.TS1 is supposed to be the easiest test of VMC.Things are going to get more complicated later,so try to master module 1 before TS1.I'm not really sure about TS1 dates but you can expect it in a month.

AIEEE 2007 PAPERS WITH SOLUTIONS

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination which is popularly known as AIEEE was conducted on Sunday.Students from all over India took the exam. There were 40 questions each on Mathematics,Physics and Chemistry making it a total of 120 questions carrying 3 marks each.Negative marking was -1 for every incorrect answer.I'm pretty sure that students who took the exam would be searching for solutions on the internet. Thus I've decided to make your job simpler by giving you a brief analysis of the paper and the question paper with solutions. The paper lived up to its reputation of being easy as it was easier than AIEEE 2006.There were errors in four questions. The cut-offs this year would be about 50-55/120 for Mathematics, 55-60/120 for Physics and 50-55/120 for Chemistry. You might be knowing that you need an AIEEE AIR of 12000 to qualify for a seat. So,to put it in a nutshell a score 165-175 marks will be enough to get an AIR of 10000 which is enough to qualify for a seat in a decent college.Don't get disheartened if you don't get an AIR in that range as the cut-offs will tend to fall after JEE results since students selected for IIT appear for AIEEE too.You can download the test papers with solutions from the link below.I would like to clarify that I'm not responsible for any printing errors or wrong answers as these solutions were provided by FIITJEE.

MY LONGEST CLASS AT VMC

I had a nice day today as I had to skip school for a class at Vidyamandir Classes (VMC) at
10:30am. The class was held to discuss and complete the topics-Hydrocarbons and Organic Chemistry. We were taught by Bade Bhaiya (Mr. Brijmohan Gupta) who as usual inspired me a lot. The class lasted 6 hours and 30 minutes but we got a 30 minutes break. Thus effectively the class lasted for 6 hours. The class started like any other class. After 3 hours at 1:30am, a lunch break of 30 minutes was given. So I went to McDonalds which was nearby to have a snack. The class resumed at 2:00pm at I didn’t feel any difficulty. I like to call Bade Bhaiya ‘Big B’ as he always makes students feel comfortable and motivates us to study. The class was over by 5:00pm
and I didn’t feel any pain or problems as classrooms at VMC are equipped with speakers for the teacher’s microphone and 4 split Air Conditioners. I was a nice experience and I expect longer classes in the near future. The most amazing feature of the class was that Bade Bhaiya aged 44 taught us for 6 hours and didn’t even sit for a second. Classes at VMC as I’ve mentioned before are fun and it is a great experience to be a part of VMC. I’m uploading a photo of Bade Bhaiya-the great man. All I can say that it was great fun.

VMC: TEST SERIES 4 (TS4)

Vidyamandir Classes organized Test Series 4 for its IITJEE2008 batch on Sunday 22nd April. Still I managed to post yesterday. The test as usual was held at 2 centers namely SD Public School and Father Agnels School. I went to SD Public school as usual and expected the usual 2 papers of 150 marks each summing up to 300.

At 9:30am,when paper1 started, I was shocked to see that paper 1 carried a weightage of 225 (75 each for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). All questions had just one correct answer and carried 3 marks each. Thus, there were 75 questions. Negative marking as usual was –1 per wrong answer (including matrix match type questions).

Paper 2 carried 240 marks (4 marks per question for 60 questions). Overall, the test carried 465 marks (155 for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics each). The paper was easier than TS3 which shows similarity between JEE 2007 and TS4 although it was not as easy as JEE 2007.

Chemical Kinetics, Chemical Equilibrium, Ionic Equilibrium, States of matter and Metallurgy were the key topics in Chemistry. The Physics section was filled with questions from Properties of Matter and thermodynamics. Optics carried very less weightage as there were around 5-6 questions. Mathematics was easier than ever as I attempted 14/20 questions in Paper 2 and 16/25 questions in paper 1. The test is open online till 24th April 10:00pm thus online results are expected in around 4 days.

MY SHORTEST CLASS AT VMC

It happened on Sunday when I had a class for the topic Parabola. The class started like any other class. By the end of two hours, it seemed as if the class was over and it was actually over in two hours! However, to make it look normal we did some simple questions and results as fillers. Officially, the class lasted 2hours and 20 minutes. Now let me tell that classes at VMC are fun and nobody waits for the class to end so it came much as a shock and not as something nice. This was something that was never expected to happen. Well there was just one thing good about it which was that I got to watch the Bahrain Grand Prix live.

IIT-JEE 2007

Past Sunday, IITJEE 2007 was held and about 2.5lac students appeared for it. The paper was easier than usual and no questions had more than one answer except the 6 mark matrix match type questions, which had no negative marking associated with them. However, children realized later that some of the questions were tricky and they had made some mistakes leading to negative marks. The cut-offs are expected to rise this year to 40-45/162 in Physics, 55-60/162 in Mathematics and 50-55/162 in Chemistry. Overall, the cut-off would range from 175-180/486. The paper was quite theoretical and very few calculations were involved. Obviously, what I’ve told you about the paper is insufficient so you may have a look at it and may download it from the links below. I would like to thank Ankur Banerjee for providing me the papers. I would like to clarify that these papers with solutions were downloaded from Career Launcher’s website thus I don’t hold any responsibility for any printing errors or any incorrect solutions. Feel free to download these papers of size 711KB and 841KB respectively, they are not subject to any copyright restrictions.

You might have to right click on the link and select Save Link As option to start download if it doesn't start by just clicking it.

VMC:VIDYAMANDIR CLASSES

I am a student of Vidyamandir Classes (VMC) which is one of the best institutes for IIT-JEE preparation. It effectively has just one centre at Punjabi Bagh in New Delhi. Today I want to tell you something about VMC (I’ll be using the abbreviation very often so make it clear that I’m talking about Vidyamandir Classes).VMC is run by three brothers namely Brijmohan Gupta (Bade Bhaiya), Shyammohan Gupta (Physics wale Bhaiya) and Manmohan Gupta (Munna Bhaiya). These three are pioneers in their work and are teaching IIT-JEE aspirants for quite some time. They teach Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics respectively. Another important figure for VMC is Mr. Sandeep Mehta who is very popularly known as Sandeep Bhaiya. At VMC everyone is called Bhaiya (brother) and there is no mention of the word ‘sir’.

Admission to VMC is on the basis of a challenging admission test. More than 10,000 students appear for the test from which about 480 are selected for admission to the classroom courses namely-

  1. Regular Classroom Course (RCC)
  2. Extended Classroom Course (ECC)

240 students are selected for admission to both of these courses. I won’t describe the Correspondence course offered by VMC as it is not a classroom course. Now I’ll briefly describe RCC and ECC.

The top 240 students are selected for RCC and are taught by the three brothers mentioned above. In addition to that, some topics are taught to them by the teachers of ECC. A batch of RCC contains 60 students and classes are held once in a week.

The ranks 240-480 are selected for ECC and are taught by IITans from VMC. An ECC group contains about 30 students and classes are held twice a week.

Classes at VMC are a wonderful experience. A class generally lasts 3 hours but sometimes it may last 4-5 hours. In each class at least 30 minutes are spent in motivating students and in telling them how to study. The classrooms have comfortable chairs, a white board and at least 1 split Air conditioner. 24 hour power backup is available at the study centers. There is one last salient feature which I would like to tell you about. It’s the use of multiple color markers while teaching which makes learning easier. VMC always focuses on the psychological factors related to examinations and I believe that is what the key to success of VMCITES is.
