My Dell Studio 1555

July 11th, 2009 by Naman Bagga | 4 Comments | Filed in General, Tech Talk

Note- I started writing this small post a few days ago but I was too preoccupied with my laptop and trying different stuff on it that publishing got a bit disturbed.

I received my Dell Studio 1555 on 2nd July. You should check out the configuration I had ordered before reading ahead. As soon as I got my laptop I set up Windows Vista to check if everything was assembled correctly. I checked the system properties to see that everything was in order. In fact it was more than what I had ordered for. I was supposed to get an Intel Core2 Duo T6400 2.0 GHz processor but my laptop has an Intel Core2 Duo T6500 2.10 Ghz processor. I hadn't ordered a mouse but got a good one with the laptop for free.

Initially I thought it was some kind of goof-up on Dell's side or perhaps T6400's were out of stock or something. Then it struck my mind that the upgrade dell was offering to T6400 was to a P8600. The T6500 was not even an option. Then I headed to the Dell site to find out that the configurations had been updated on 26th June. Dell no longer offers a T6400 processor with any laptop. Some friends pointed out that Dell laptops always ship with a free mouse( or maybe at least Dell Studio laptops are). I'm glad I didn't buy an in-stock piece. I would've got the old configuration. Also a 10/10 to Dell for giving me the latest configuration even though I ordered on 22nd June. This is the advantage of having a system where people can order their laptop online and customize it. It takes time but you get the best deal and the latest products.

I haven't really tested the 512 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 yet but I'll post about it as soon as I play some games. I like the keyboard back-light. The backlight has 2 levels of lighting. Here are the screenshots of the keyboard with backlight off, dim and on. Click on the thumbnails to see the enlarged version of the images.-

The mouse I got as a freebie is actually better than the one my dad bought with his Inspiron 1545. The mouse is an Internet mouse with next and previous buttons. It also has a DPI control button and DPI indicator which can be very helpful while playing FPS games as well. You can turn down the DPI to snipe and increase it while using an assault gun. To cut it short, I love my laptop :-)

PayPerPost v4.0

PayPerPost

Payperpost was one of the first blog advertising networks based on the sponsored post model. A lot of blog advertising networks have followed the path laid by PayPerPost but nothing has been as big as PPP. Izea's other advertising network SocialSpark gets close to PayPerPost but is not as big as PPP was in pre-RankSpank days. Izea recently launched PayPerPost v4.0 which aims to help PPP regain its position.

PayPerPost lost popularity after the RankSpank incidents and a better search-engine friendly advertising network was due to come. People might have thought that SocialSpark will be Izea's main focus but the launch of PayPerPost v4.0 has proved that PayPerPost will live and Izea will not shut-down its most popular service.

PayPerPost

PayPerPost v4.0 has many new features making it a great improvement to PPP v3. It has a nice clean interface for bloggers. Bloggers set their own blog prices and the advertiser no longer sets the prices. Advertisers get to control every aspect of their opportunities. They can hand-pick bloggers and manually approve their posts. Bloggers also have an option to limit themselves to posts with nofollow links.

PPP v4.0 is ready to come out of its alpha stage. The response from bloggers has been great. They are currently looking for advertisers who want toAdvertise On Blogs. Izea always takes good care of its advertisers and hence keeps its clients happy. So I expect a lot of advertisers to sign up on PayPerPost v4.0 to promote their website or service. PayPerPost v4.0 is going to be big.

Explanation

July 5th, 2009 by Naman Bagga | 3 Comments | Filed in General

I owe an explanation to all my blog readers as I haven't posted for more than seven days. My twitter followers might know the reason. I was on a vacation in Goa from 29th June to 2nd July and I forgot to schedule a notification post.

I was back from Goa on 2nd July. I received my Dell Studio 15 on that day. I spent the next 2 days importing stuff into my laptop and personalizing it. Now I'm happy with my laptop and can work on it normally. Detailed posts on the Goa trip and my Dell Studio 1555 to follow soon.
