Ubuntu Bootup Resolution Problem Part-2

Here's a new dimension to the famous Ubuntu 7.10 Bootup Resolution Problem.In order to fix the problem,you would have added a vga=791 or lets say vga=xxx to the your /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Recently I discovered that updating your kernel resets your menu.lst to the default settings.You need to edit the automagic kernel settings in order to solve the problem permanently.

Open a terminal window and type the following to edit menu.lst-

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst or,
sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst

Type your password to edit the file.Lets say you had added vga=xxx after reading part 1 of this problem.Now search for a line like this one-

# defoptions=splash quiet

You need to change it to-

# defoptions=splash vga=xxx quiet

This should solve your problem permanently.I'll post a part-3 if I discover any other aspect of this problem.

DPS VK InSecure?

My friends often tell me about incidents of somebody getting caught jumping over the school wall.I hear one such case every week or so.I just can't understand why these kids want to get out of the school premises in the first place.Secondly,why don't they use the right way to do so.I'll found the correct way to get out of school safely.

I had my computer science pre-board practicals today.I even had a class at VMC thus I couldn't go for Access.This also meant that I needed to return home as soon as possible.I asked my Rep to sign a slip permitting me to leave the school premises at 12pm.The slip,which was supposed to be my gate pass is still in my pocket.Let me tell you how.

I walked confidently towards the main gate of the school,with my black bag on my shoulders and to my surprise,the guy with the register was busy talking to someone else.He hardly noticed me even when I was standing right in front of him.

I was looking for a person to check my slip and I literally waited for somebody to check my permission slip.Then I thought that the best way to be noticed is to walk straight out of the gate casually.I looked at a few guards sitting outside the gate and still had the slip in my hand.I was a bit confused and surprised after all this.

Then I hired an auto-rickshaw(Tuk-Tuk in other words) to go home.This is called bad poor security.

There are many ways to download free music from the internet.P2P(Peer to Peer) applications like Limewire,Ares and using torrents is one such way.These are a bit of a pain for Windows users as they have to worry about viruses and other Malware.One thing I like about these applications is that all sorts of songs are available in different formats.Here's a tip for Limewire(Windows users,follow it at your own risk)-Search Limewire for Limewire Pro,download the crack and upgrade to Pro for free.

There are a few websites which provide free song downloads but there is a restriction to most of these.Cool Goose Cool Toad is one such website.You won't find too many songs there but you might get some Hindi songs.The interface of this website is horrible and search is a pain in the neck.You need to sign-up to browse and download song.In short,Cool Toad is useless.

There are some other websites like Fun Maza and Masti4India which provide free Hindi songs for download.Note that these websites provide songs only in real media format(.rm) and you need Real Player to play these songs.

Now,let me come to the main topic of this post.Esnips is a website for sharing all kind of media like songs,videos etc.This website has none of the drawbacks mentioned above.You can find all sorts of music and videos in different formats.You can even get free E-Books there.

Till a few days ago,you needed to signup to download songs.But they have changed their policy.Recently,they have removed the download option and only streaming is available.You can use Firefox add-ons to download the songs but I have an even simpler fix to the problem.

You don't need to be a member to download songs.All you have to do is to search for the song and when you find it,look at the address bar to find the URL.For example if GQ wants to download RATM's Renegades of Funk,the URL is- http://www.esnips.com/doc/18.....Funk

Now all you have to do is to change the folder.Change 'doc' in the URL to 'nsdoc'.Thus to download,the URL becomes-

The download will start.This even works with mobile phones and I do this with my Mobile Phone Browser-Opera Mini.

P.S-Esnips has stopped working properly these days.So,this method might not work temporarily.There's another website called Aimini from which you can download free music.

If you wish to stick to esnips,here's a suggestion-Some people with better brains have uploaded songs in archives which you can download without even signing up.Promote this idea and you'll be able to download as many songs as you wish to.

Here's another blog update.NamanB,that's my new display name.I changed it because I thought that Sports Fan was a name restricted to the 10-20% of me which is passionate about sports.I,being a person interested in a large variety of things can be completely represented only by my name.Another aspect is that now my display name matches my domain.For those who don't like typing long names,you can call me Naman or NB in short.

Decreasing Number Of Posts

You might have noticed the decrease in the frequency of posts on my blog.The reason is pretty obvious.I'm a student of class XII and attend classes at VMC for IIT JEE 2008 preparation.Thus I rarely get time to maintain my blog and write some posts.

VMC has a tradition of completing the syllabus not before the month of January.December is a month of frequent classes.The so called pre-bored boards are scheduled for January.Topics like Inorganic Chemistry,Biomolecules and Modern Physics are tough on the mind as all these require mugging up the awful book published by the NCERT.

The insignificant Bored Board exams will keep me buys in March.13th April is going to be a date to watch out for.No,I'm not talking about the harvesting festival,Baisakhi.It's the IIT JEE day.I'm better off not keeping the date out of my mind.It can interfere with my preparation.

Basically,the next few months are going to be the months with the least number of posts on Naman Zone.Though you will find a new post in the next 2 days,don't expect too many posts.
